Sounds Like Violence - Heartless Wreck
Album Review

Sounds Like Violence – Heartless Wreck

I underestimated this band. After ‘Glad I’m Losing You’ I thought the Swedes were just a fantastic throwaway band creating brilliantly shouty pop in a Hives-Interpol way but what I didn’t notice was the lyrics.

“I just want my heart back, you can send it in a box, I can pay for postage” or what about “You have used my heart to decorate your white walls, does your boyfriend consider it as art?” The guys from Båstad in Sweden (still makes me laugh) have come up with the perfect blueprint for screamy festival lager lout rock. If you’re planning to go see these in the summer you may as well throw you shoes away now cos you’ll never see them again anyway, its gonna get messy.

Although lead singer Andreas Soderlund has an uncanny likeness to Jonny Borrell, it would be harsh to hold that against him – it aint really his fault after all. And anyway, he’s got such a great delivery that he makes every song sound huger than you think it can have any possible right to be.

This isn’t quite as good as ‘Glad I’m Losing You’, but as that’s one of the singles of the year so far it’s nothing to be ashamed of. This is still a damn great rock record that just wizzes by and gives you no choice but to shout along, straining your throat trying to match Soderlund’s rasp.
