Wales seems to be coming up for a musical high once again as a wild array of noises are now emanating from the land of song. The Voices are a feedback obsessed three piece from Cardiff who have just released their second album ‘The Sound of Young America’ from which they have lifted this single ‘I’ll Always Be Within You When There’s No One Left Inside’.
The Voices seem to have grown up listening to the sound walls built by one Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine and have decided to follow the great man into a sonic nirvana of their own. They construct long menacing tracks that bring together a continuous set of guitar chords coupled with haunting vocals to create an almost unsettling feeling for the mind. Have no doubt this is serious music for people who demand a little more from their ears than the average. Given license you get the feeling they could produce a Neil Young style ‘Arc’ album with one track taking up over thirty of feedback. This puts you in mind of Mogwai and Sigur Ros as it delves deep into the concept of music leaving aside any wanting for mass adulation or popular success.
Available for download only from 2nd of July the release further stands as a testament to the work My Kung Fu records are doing in putting out such a diverse and fascinating array of sounds. Superb stuff from The Voices and it should be hunted down by anyone who appreciates serious music for the mind.
