Nephu Huzzband

Ant Standring, with surgical precision, conducts a dissection of Nephu Huzzband, and these are the results of the autopsy of one of Nottingham's hottest new bands.

After recently seeing a great gig by Nephu Huzzband (NH), I took the time to ask the band (Jamie Barrow, Rob Challinor, Tom Bentley and Adam Popple) a few questions.

1. WHO is the main driving force or do you work as a team?

Tom, the most likely to go solo or crazy, provides lyrics to accompany the whole bands jam-born creations, right through to the finished NH songs. Rob also smugly recalls the time he drank and drove the lead singer of Bloodarm, an L.A. based band, right under the table, so hats off to his drive there!

2. WHERE did you get the name?

Unsurprised, I sit back and hear a sinister tale not too dissimilar to any that Timothy Leary would’ve told back in the good old purple daze. NH was Gods pseudonym, appearing to a twisted friend of the band as a self-confessed, imaginary blue triangle of smoke! OK then, moving on…!

3. WHAT gig would you most like to take a sniper rifle to?

After some reassuring brain ache, NH collectively settle for The Kooks, Razorlight, Hard-Fi and Muse.

4. WHY make music when you could be….?

Adam would quite happily keep playing guitar or watching Jerry Springer, Tom would succumb to sleeping and smoking, though I doubt in that order, Rob would pick away at his ever present callus as he slips into a world of watching Big Brother and 24 and Jamie would choose to play rugby and air hockey whilst writing novella after sport interrupted novella!
Emphatically, they collectively speak of a video on Youtube worth checking out. Watch the dancing that accompanies ‘Justice VS Simian’ when you find it. Finally, they add that they would all support other bands in their situation, naming DIE!DIE!DIE! and Victorian English Gentleman’s Club as a couple of favourites.

5. WHEN do you intend to launch an all out attack?

NH have got interest from a London based record label and all are agreed that to get a single out would be great, for starters! We can expect CD demo discs to be available at upcoming shows too! Making the cover of NME isn’t something they aspire towards but do admit they would enjoy wearing masks of Pete Doherty (Babyshambles) for their sarcastic and ironic pose.

Thanking them for their time, I drink up and leave them to it!
