Lodestar Festival!

Cambridgeshire is now one of the world’s festival hotspots! It’s not a joke. Joining the world famous Cambridge Folk Festival and the ever growing and completely non Secret Garden Party is Lodestar. Debuting at the back end of the British summer festival season – 31 August – 2 September – Lodestar’s all star new music party is more than welcome on the circuit. Going for a better known set of bands than the Garden Party, the line up is still full of fresh talent. Led by Manc strummer Badly Drawn Boy, Scottish rockers Idlewild, the grimy Rakes and the brilliantly mad British Sea Power they have really pulled it off first time. The new bands announced are the most exciting. Leeds’ Pigeon Detectives have already hit the mainstream and will draw the maddest moshers but the mix of music will keep everybody happy.

To pick but a few – one’s to watch in every sense – Good Shoes and Tilly and the Wall are both superb additions. Morden’s finest, Good Shoes, write three minute pop classics to the highest degree and will provide the perfect end of summer feel good dance and sing along session. American’s Tilly and the Wall are one of the most interesting new groups on the planet with their sublime lyrics and original female fronted quirkiness. BBC 6 Music is supporting the shindig and would do well to stick with the event. Its’ variety – sunshine poppers The Bees to scantily clad ravers The Foals – is Lodestar’s winner, while the beautiful Sunnyside Farm in Lode, Cambridge will provide the perfect setting. We don’t want no mud baths here, Glasto can keep their early summer storms, we will get a smaller, sunnier, prettier and cheaper weekend of all night indie disco parties. A Little Miss Sunshine if you like. And how could you not.
