Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan says that heavy rock music is dying. He said this during the course of a conversation about his new side project Puscifer.
He says the collective – which features the likes of Primus drummer Tim Alexander and actress Milla Jovovich-Yes that ‘Resident evil’ Jovovich – is “my attempt to make music to inspire people. Heavy rock is sinking, the industry is dying. This is definitely not thinking man's music”.
Cynic’s may cry ‘Green jelly!’ but Tool and Maynard himself have always been at the peripheral of music and Keenan’s side projects, Tapeworm and a perfect circle, to name but a few have always produced music that is both challenging and important.
Saying that he hopes the group will release an album in October, he adds:
“I'd like to release it in different ways – maybe two songs at a time, every three or four months. You can do that now, with the Internet and MySpace. In a way, I feel like I'm standing in two places at once. I have my right foot in then, and my left foot on to the next stage. The industry needs an enema”.
The only problem with an enema is it’s usually accompanied with some shit-let’s hope that’s not the case here.
