The Sounds – Painted By Numbers
The trend of other contemporary Swedish bands such as The Hellacopters, Mando Diao and OK GO who aptly capture the rawness of their influences in their respective class is continued. Maja Ivarrson leads this quintet with a lurid pinch and a self-confident vocal swagger, reminiscent of Siouxsie Sue. Simple new wave guitar strands wrap around the flighty vocal touch that uses the simplicity of the lyrics to induce a carefree and confident vibe. Ivarsson is undoubtedly the focus of the group especially in a live setting, but this single best illuminates the fact that she is flanked by musos with an appreciation for and belief in what she is trying to achieve.
