Stephen Fretwell - Scar
Album Review

Stephen Fretwell – Scar

He’s supported the likes of Travis, Keane, Athlete and Oasis. His music was used on the pilot episode of Courtney Cox’s recent comeback series Dirt. He’s recorded material at Abbey Road Studios. Discovering all this got me quite interested in a guy who has ultimately flown below the radar. So what is Stephen Fretwell up to now?

Scar offers up what sounds like Badly Drawn Boy fronting Gomez whilst covering an amalgamation of Salisbury Hill and The Day we caught the Train. With its knick knack paddy whack drumstick work, pulsing bassline and buoyant tempo stirring images of a bygone era that accommodated Bugsy Malone or Bonnie & Clyde, it’s a real albeit short, three minute treat. His LP should be worth checking out.

All in all, SF injects energy and optimism into his sometimes underdog themed music. And I like it! I like the cut of his jib! Try and get along to one of his shows listed below.

Aug 30th The Hospital, London at 8pm.
Aug 31st The Connect Festival, Argyll, Scotland at 8pm.
Sep 1st The Electric Picnic Festival, Stradbally, Laois at 5pm.
Sep 11th The Luminaire, London at 9pm.
