Kill The Young - We Are The Birds And The Bees. We Are The Telephone Trees
Album Review

Kill The Young – We Are The Birds And The Bees. We Are The Telephone Trees

Storming out of Manchester, these guys dug in and pulled out a bouncy single from their debut album ‘Proud Sponsors of Boredom’. It’s 3.54” of fuzzy rock which growls away like a sort of grungy disco on cheap speed.

The four-to-the-floor kick and disco hi-hat dance around a darkly muffled riff until the chorus hits. And it’s big. The chorus is straight ahead rock and rolls along nicely. The problem is that it’s just a little too messy. The ‘fake’ (?) studio banter adds very little and there’s not really enough substance to the track to carry it along to the end.

There’s a sense that they are conscious of the songs strong chorus and have used every trick in the book to fill the song out around it. It does the trick well enough though and sounds full enough if a little muddy. I am sure the maelstrom opens up with music more success in front of a crowd – watch this space…
