Last stop china town - For your loathe & True faith double a-side single
Album Review

Last stop china town – For your loathe & True faith double a-side single

It’s standard now to have your single balanced with a known cover-the thinking being that there’s some familiarity-that at least you have an idea of what to expect.

The cover in this is case New order’s ‘True faith’ and taking this on is like the musical equivalent of a using fists in a knife fight-the thing is Last stop china town have brought handguns and instead of trying to tag together some half baked rendition of the song, they take the essence of the original and create a cover with themselves draped all over it; the secret being that at first it’s unrecognizable as the original and then breaks through at just the right moment.

Last stop China town’s own song ‘For your loathe’ does have the ability to be heavy when necessary and this double a-side certainly flies that flag, rubbing commerciality with vocals extending from rough metal to polished rock-sometimes within the confines of the same verse. It’s a difficult line to travel, but LSCT turn every moment to their advantage and come away with some interesting routes they could take. You can see what playing with the likes of Bullet for my valentine has done for them.

Last stop China town have a large spectrum covered within their own sound, it’s only when they turn more mainstream that people will either switch on or off, but it’s completely plausible for the light to remain permenately on for them.
