The Broken Hearts - Blanco/Black Cat
Album Review

The Broken Hearts – Blanco/Black Cat

This double A-side single is a bit of a conundrum. ‘Blanco’ manages to create the entirely new genre of milk bottle swing-skiffle, whilst I’m convinced that the spindly ‘Black Cat’ is what the Cure’s ‘Love Cats’ would sound like when covered by Gnarls Barkley.

The Broken Hearts are described as a DJ and performance duo, playing in some of the best venues in our fair capital and earning some good reviews. But here’s the conundrum; for all the great ideas and stunning performances that seem to be behind the songs, these burlesque tinged tunes just don’t really seem to work as a single. I think that maybe the Broken Hearts are an act who need to be seen in their full Technicolor glory to be appreciated.
