The Manic Street Preachers return with ‘Indian Summer’, the third single to be lifted from the superb ‘Send Away The Tigers’. A fine choice for a single, it is perhaps the best song on the record.
James Dean Bradfield is, as always, spot on with his guitar work and the roaming nature of Nicky Wire’s bass adds a counter melody that allows the song to move in different directions whilst ultimately staying in the same sort of place.
Rhythmically, it’s almost identical to ‘Design For Life’ which makes it feel like a ‘proper’ rock and roll song – with beautifully arranged strings adding to the heart-warming vibe of the track. The verse melody is fit for a festival crowd, and what with a brooding chorus that adds a dark dimension to an otherwise upbeat song, there are the right level of shifts from light to dark to keep the song extremely interesting.
