Nineteen-year-old Ollie Philpott from Leeds, currently studying at Manchester University, has been crowned the winner of Budweiser’s Rising Talent competition. The competition launched earlier in the year to find a DJ to play on New Years Eve at the legendary Warehouse Project in Manchester.
Sam Kandel, founder of the Warehouse Project said: “Ollie played an impressive set and showed amazing confidence for such a young DJ. He’ll now join Radio One’s Annie Mac – who helped launch the competition – Justin Robertson and Mike Pickering at Budweiser’s New Year Rising line-up and play in front of over two thousand revellers on the biggest party night of the year”.
The finals, held in Manchester’s Purple Pussycat club over the weekend, saw Ollie competing against top amateur DJs from all over the UK including London, Liverpool and Southampton. His crowd-pleasing thirty-minute Electro House set proved to the judges why he was worthy of a place in the finals and earned him top spot in the nation-wide talent search.
Ollie said, “Playing at the Budweiser Rising Talent finals was an amazing experience and to win it over so many other brilliant DJs is a dream come true. I learned a lot from the competition and still can’t believe I’ll be playing at one of the UK’s best clubs on New Years Eve!”
Budweiser’s Rising Talent competition was set up to give amateur DJs a chance to live their dream, as well as providing a platform for one exceptional person to launch their mixing career. Budweiser is the sponsor of the Warehouse Project and will be holding a special celebration of New Year’s Eve at Budweiser’s New Year Rising at the Warehouse Project.
