Windmill - Tokyo Moon
Album Review

Windmill – Tokyo Moon

Think Tim DeLaughter fronting Guillemots and you’ve hit the tip of the iceberg in the quest towards understanding the why and wherefore of Mathew ‘Windmill’ Dillon. ‘Tokyo Moon’, builds from a tingling, intergalactic key-led intro into a spring time, full-bodied pop jaunt that mingles urban poetry with positive prose.

Dillon’s slightly nasal vocals possess enough body to complement the bold accompaniment. This song was chosen to kick off the coming-of-age debut album, ‘Puddle City Racing Lights’ and now proudly soaks up the plaudits of its single status.

Slow building, non-album B-side, ‘Shutters’ brings about the more musing and slightly melancholic side to Dillon’s song writing. It conceals the poignancy, if not the drama, of a Bright Eyes song. The retro, animated video to ‘Tokyo Moon’ has been nominated for the Best Music Video honour at the lauded British Animation Awards, seemingly there’s no end to Dillon’s talents.
