Fancy ringing in the New Year in style instead of nursing a hangover in bed? That was the intention of the WHP organisers, and with doors opening at 6pm everyone had no choice. Fantastic venue and massive performances from some big names made New Year 2008 a one to remember. Boys Noize tore up the place in the early evening hours before making way for the slick electro sounds of SebastiAn before Simian Mobile Disco and 2ManyDJs finished off the nights entertainment. It could have been a bit louder and lacked the hooks and turns of the earlier performances, but still a hell of a party and great way to finish the WHP season.
First we lost Sankeys to redevelopment, then we lost Tangled and now the WHP has closed its doors. Nights like these are a Manchester institution and it’s great to see the spirit still running strong. So what’s next for the WHP organisers? Keep an eye out for upcoming events at Paradise Factory, their new venture. It’s set to become a classic.
