Oldham band Twisted Wheel have won 97.7 Xfm Manchester’s competition for new and emerging talent, Uploaded, and have since gone on to sign a multi record deal with Columbia Records.
On Thursday 24th January, Clint Boon presented a self designed and signed ‘Best of Xfm Uploaded 2007 Award’ to Twisted Wheel on his Music Response show following the signing of their record deal earlier that week.
Every Monday to Thursday from 7pm on Music Response, Clint Boon plays his favourite tracks that have been uploaded onto xfmmanchester.co.uk. Listeners to the show voted for who they thought should be crowned as winners of Xfm Manchester’s Uploaded 2007.
Clint Boon said “’I have been really excited for all the Manchester bands that have been recently signed, such as the Ting Tings and The Courteeners but especially for Twisted Wheel. They really are just a great bunch of lads from Oldham and they remind me of when Inspiral Carpets first signed their record deal, they’re at such a great stage in their lives.”
Twisted Wheel formed in February 2007 and the band consists lead guitarist and vocals Jonny Brown, Richard Lees on bass and Adam Clarker on drums. Xfm’s Uploaded Award 2007 comes at the end of a hugely successful year for Twisted Wheel which has seen them support The Happy Mondays and Ian Brown, perform at Leeds Festival and named as the main buzzband at last October’s In the City.
The band recently played at Manchester’s newest venue, Moho Live, and is set to go out on tour with Sheffield indie band, Reverend and the Makers in February.
Kevin Brown, manager of the band said, “Xfm Manchester’s Uploaded has meant the band has received the exposure it deserves in the shortest time frame possible. In any other situation we may not have achieved such strong support from the word go.”
