David Jordan – Sun Goes Down

Wow, more Bhangra tinged beats, are they still dope? Anyways, more importantly, David Jordan’s (DJ) ‘Sun goes down’ sounds like Lil Bow Wow’s grown a set and has found himself fronting the Levellers in a crazy moonlit, multi ethnical hoe down. Does it work? Oh yeah, I don’t know how or on what level, but my ears are still in place and functioning, though I admit my foot never got tapping!

All the promise of the schmoove organ driven intro of track 2 ‘Finest Ways’ is lost by what could be a strong contender for wussiest vocal by a brother for quite some time. Fair enough, the structure of the layered composition and its mix all work well, proving the music to be far from horrid, it just all comes back to that 21 year old Londoner DJ and his girly singing.

I can honestly say without reservation that this guy should do real well for himself. Is it fair, that’s not my place to say! Perhaps steered toward some schmaltzy ballad and who knows, maybe he might find the right medium to channel his talents, instead of ruining more upbeat, inappropriate backing tracks as found here.
