PRIESTESS – Blood/Everything That You Are

Wholesome Canadian grunge flirting rockers, Priestess showcase the lingering, forlorn and anxious vocals of percussionist Vince Nudo. He gives usual lead man Mikey Heppner the chance to concentrate on providing the spiralling guitars. It’s easy to see through ‘Blood’, featuring a rhythmically catchy Queens Of The Stone Age trot, why these evergreen Canadians have engulfed a wide amount of commercial appeal. With the inclusion ‘Run Home’ on the ‘Surf’s Up’ soundtrack being the most notable recent achievement. On this creepy display, Nudo’s vampirism exposing lyrical pronouncements are delivered with grit and gusto.

It’s back to the old school with the Iron Maiden romping ‘Everything That You Are’ and, whilst being boisterous and spunky, it tends to smack of clichéd lyrics and a lazy reliance overused riffs.

Unfortunately, the vocals just feel forced and it is going to open a debate as to whether Vince Nudo should be given vocal control more often?
