Georgie Carter – In My Shoes

Dreamy-pop debut album by 18-year-old Georgie Carter, In My Shoes is the result of two intensive years of song writing and production.

Hailing from Oxford, this incredibly young singer (yes, even by current standards!) has an otherworldly Imogen Heap sound to her voice, not as brashly over-produced though; Georgie Carter is strange but definitely subtle and more comforting.

Putting her unique voice in perspective, her pop career starts on a stunning sweet note with her debut single Little Bit Lost. On first listen, her voice detracts much of your attention but listen again and you realise that it’s not just about how the girl sounds. It’s about deeper meaning. Perhaps naïve but nevertheless innocence and true, her words will resonate with anyone from any age bracket. Listen to the title track: In My Shoes and I’ll Be Your Friend.

Like a fairy princess who has been given a recording contract by complete chance, this album sounds like a soundtrack to a very real fairy-tale that is happening at the bottom of a garden somewhere. Light and breezy, there’s an air of chill-out and simplicity. Georgie is singing about life like Jem once did (when she was around).

As you listen on, Stumble Across Your Mind gives us a change of direction. Coming across more dynamically aggressive, Perfection is almost a tribute to Lily Allen – only in the realness of the lyrics – it follows the Brit-girl honesty that we’re all getting used to!

Fusing her youthfully mature voice with relaxed reggae, a bit of jazz and exhilarating pop, Georgie has created a collection of 11 refreshingly catchy and wondrous tracks. She has what it takes to be one of the defining voices of 2008.
