‘Table For One’ is the new single from Passenger and one of their debut album’s stand-out tracks. Perhaps more than any of the other Passenger songs 'Table for One' showcases Mike Rosenberg’s ability to inhabit different characters so completely and to bring them to life so vividly.
This 23-year-old writes with empathy and knowing from the perspective of a disillusioned middle-aged man. “It was written while sitting in a pub in London waiting to go on stage”, says Mike. “We just noticed all these men drinking alone, not wanting to go home, and wanted to try and get inside that.”
‘Table For One’ is also a highlight of the band’s live show – it has literally moved audiences to tears, both busking on the street and on large festival stages, such is the strength of emotion it evokes. Sad, poignant lyrics offset with a rousing chorus, it seems impossible not to get caught up in the moment wherever you are.
The B-side is a new track entitled ‘Northumberland’, and was written while the band were on their first tour. Gentle, beautiful, full of nostalgia yet purposeful, it has echoes of both Simon & Garfunkel and Tunng.
Passenger have spent most of 2007 touring and playing festivals throughout the summer and are planning more live dates in the UK and US coming soon.
