Eutopia’s ‘Valentine’ is the first single to be taken off their forth coming album “Life,” which also features acoustic bonus track “I’m not alone”. Citing their influences from Beethoven to Elvis to Def Leppard to Greek traditional music, this release was going to be interesting listening.
Valentine itself is a power pop ballad reminiscent of eighties soft rock ballads, with the added vocals of Alexander Kotziamanis, bringing a more contemporary feel to the track. After a few listens your probably find yourself singing the chorus “If only I knew the way”, and to the bands credit the track is very listenable and remained in my CD player for a couple of days. Only criticisms are is that the track sounded somewhat over produced, and the synth sound which drowned the chorus, seemed over powering and made the single feel dated.
However “Valentine” remains a promising first release from Eutopia.
However it was the bonus track “I’m Not Alone” which really caught my attention, the acoustic track felt raw and really stripped down capturing Kotziamanis strong vocals, and showcasing Eutopias ability to write a great melodic song.
