Ian Walsh’s ‘Supposed To Be’ isn’t quite the two dimensional affair it seems to perpetrate to be. On second listen it does indeed have its hidden depths, mainly in the construction of the music itself. So not one of those songs that grab you on first listen, but certainly one of those that you hear in the background of the rock bar you happen to be shouting at your mates in when trying to get served at the bar.
Walsh’s voice itself although certainly knowing how to present itself, is also part of what makes the song seem so blendful. Explore further into his repertoire and you find depth and range (especially with the quite beautiful ‘Goodbye’) and that he has a voice that you are familiar with.
And with that in mind it will be fans of other established acts that might take an interest. Others won’t find much to be attracted by, which is a pity cause he is certainly a bit better than his colleagues.
