Passenger - Table for One

Passenger – Table for One

Strongly echoing Iris by Goo Goo Dolls, Table for One by Passenger leaves you practically cold upon exposure to its crystal clear, stark realisation of what could be for each of us the inevitable, impending future. We’ve all seen the crazy loner talking to themselves as they stare into not just their pint, but the pint they’ve bought in for their ‘friend’. That’s what this track deals with insightfully and sensitively, utilising time served wisdom that simply isn’t there for 23 year old Mike Rosenberg, the writer of this song.

What’s the actual music like then? A fantastically emotive vocal amalgamation of Suzanne Vega and Fergal Sharkey carries what could be music form Amy MacDonald’s surprisingly yet undeniably great debut LP (yes, you should check that out too). Oddly, the radio edit only differs by not allowing us to behold the opening 9 insignificant seconds of the LP version and aside from the soaring backing vocals that can’t be as they should be heard on the CD, just as they can in any musical mind, there are no shortcomings to speak of.

If this doesn’t attract the attention that ‘Passenger’ surely so rightfully deserve, well, I might have to go out and buy a hat, ready for eating you understand. And although I haven’t seen the video (yet), apparently it’s well worth checking out, especially for any fellow David Lynch fans out there.
