Their amazing career, which spans 20 years, includes writing songs for top chart acts such as Cher, Atomic Kitten and Rooster and the duo have recently been putting the finishing touches to Natasha Hamilton’s new solo material.
‘The Realies’ as they are affectionately known, formed in 1988. They had hits with “Open Up Your Mind”, “Window Pane”, “The Truth” and “Believer” and toured the globe in support of their debut album “The Real People”.
They left CBS in 1992 and set up their own label Egg Records which released their second album “What's On The Outside” to critical acclaim.
During this time they worked closely co writing tracks with the then unsigned Oasis. The Scouse brothers co wrote the track ‘Columbia’ which featured on the Oasis demo tape – THE demo tape that got the legendary band signed. Chris and Tony’s vocals were also used on ‘Supersonic’ and the brothers co-wrote ‘Rocking Chair’ the B-side to multi-platinum ‘Roll With It’. The Manchester band regularly travelled to Liverpool to use ‘The Realies’ studio and stay at their house.
Tony Griffiths said “‘They (Oasis) were really big fans of The Real People, so we helped them produce their first demos. They used to record in our studio and stay at our house all the time.”
More recently the band got together to record the Beatles classic ‘Hey Jude’ for The Number One Project – a charitable project celebrating Liverpool music past and present. The Real People put on a show stopping performance at the brand new Liverpool Echo Arena and their song also appears on ‘Liverpool-The Number Ones Album’ alongside tracks from bands such as Scaffold, The Farm and Elvis Costello.
The band's long awaited 3rd album is close to completion and is currently being mixed by hit producer Peter Craigie with a 1st single and UK tour being planned for June 08.
