Friends Of The Bride – You Can’t Take Him Anywhere

Welding together the cheeky narrative of contemporaries Flipron and the stammering folk strut of King Creosote, makes Friends of the Bride accessible enough, through this friendly if a little trite A-side, ‘You Can’t Take Him Anywhere’. A simple chorus and a winging melody could be their saving grace, aiding a flight into the lower reaches of the charts.

Snippets of Billy Bragg’s song and style book are drawn from heavily for B-side ‘Hey Buddy’, before a snappy chorus is utilised to the point of being worn out.

With a little experimenting and formula departing, Friends of the Bride do seem to have the base to possibly do a The Hoosiers on us. Whether that is a good, bad or indifferent thing is for you to decide?
