Patiently and simplistically, Kate Walsh effortlessly croons along to some sublimely balanced accompaniment that rightly stands strong with its understated lowly slung, swung low self. It just ambles naturally along on its charming way. Does KW sing a little too slack-assedly to truly deliver her full potential as she undeniably pleases? Perhaps, but still, as Borat would say…it’s very niiice!
And that’s all before she somewhat hazardously covers the Smiths’ ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want’…Morrissey must be well chuffed! So what does she bring to the song other than harsh comparison to the kickass original? Honestly, not too much! There’s little imagination injected into the short and somewhat predictable, disengaging proceedings. Why bother then you might ask… and I might too!
KW has a voice that could lull angels into slumbersome serenity but, it’s just what she does with it is possibly a little too smug and self assured in its ambition free comfort zone. And who knows, after listening to an LP, that voice just might even begin to grate and grind.
