11,000 people sat in the brand new Liverpool Echo Arena waiting to here the Beatles ‘Ticket to Ride’…Jack Roberts enters with a face full of shaving foam looking more ready for bed than to perform to a sell out crowd!
His quirky opening and sublime rendition of the Beatles favourite mesmerised the packed stadium at The Number One Live Concert. His act was so compelling he received an invite to perform at the Liverpool tribute to Buddy Holly and the Crickets alongside Andy Steele, one of Liverpool’s renowned guitarists.
The Liverpool tribute to Buddy Holly will take place on 20th March to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Buddy Holly’s visit to Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall back in 1958. The tribute will feature a number of Liverpool celebrities from music, theatre and TV, all performing the songs of Buddy Holly.
Jack Roberts with his trademark inimitable, gruff tone (likened to Tom Waits, Jack Levine) is notorious in Liverpool for his time in the band ‘The Bingo Brothers’ who performed to sell out crowds UK wide, including the legendary Glastonbury Festival in 1994. Jack is also a well known animator, artist and comedian.
Together, Jack and Andy will perform a very special version of Buddy’s classic song ‘Fool’s Paradise’. Jack commented “I like to give the audience something a bit different, the idea to shave on stage at the Number One Concert only came to me about an hour before I went on and we were all running around trying to get hold of a razor and shaving foam! We weren’t sure how it was going to be received but the crowd seemed to enjoy it! I feel honoured to have been asked to perform at the Buddy Holly tribute alongside Andy, we have a couple of surprises up our sleeve, it definitely won’t be a dull performance!”
