The Enemy – This Song Is About You

Ten seconds in and Tom Clarke sings “Half the kids that you grew up with, were pushing prams by the time that they were just sixteen”, it appears to be their very own take on the current trend of social commentary in music. But where Mike Skinner and Alex Turner have succeeded and come across as novices, Tom Clarke falls somewhat flat, making himself sound a bit of a prat in the process.

I’m always rather dubious of a band’s integrity when 4 plus singles are released from the same album. I’ve lost count (and somewhere along the line interest) of how many The Enemy have released from their debut album ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns’, which has already been hyped to death. The song itself is pretty dire; the orchestration is very over the top and Clarke’s vocals very bland. Maybe they should spend a little less time on their haircuts and a bit more time worrying about how not to sound like a Jam tribute band.
