The final part of Chris T-T’s London trilogy, the first parts being 2001’s “The 253” and 2003’s “London Is Sinking”, is rather simply named “Capital”. Those lucky enough to be familiar with the first two albums will need no encouraging to jump out and buy this final installment now, but those who missed out will need a little introduction.
Far from being a glamorisation of London this album is about urban decay, prejudice and is simply brimming with insightful yet close-to-the-bone truths. The music is both confrontational and forboding, sliding easily from electronic beats to folk-pop as the lyrics demand, with an extra dose aggression provided by Andy Burrows of Razorlight fame taking a turn on the drums.
The first single from this album has already been released, “A-Z”, which is a call to arms against the restrictions of modern life who’s lyrics are laced with home truths “there was never an invasion, there were never any monsters, they made them up to keep everybody scared”.
Yet for all this album appears to provide up front, so much more lies just beneath the surface. It would be all too easy to listen to this album and hear only the music, missing the real almost-apocalyptic message that is sitting in plain sight. Chris T-T has proven himself once again to be not only a fantastic musician but a valuable asset to the music community.
