Immediately drowning in the sea of mediocrity in which it gleefully bobs about in, Operahouse’s debut 2 tracker, despite being every bit as clever as anything any other swaggersome, guitar laden lad bands before them have knocked out, ultimately fails to please.
Kooks, Arctic Monkeys yadayadayada…we’ve reluctantly gulped it down for too long now, haven’t we? Attitude + guitar + marketing company = unit shifting…who needs diversity when this formula can seemingly be gobbled up, en masse, for ever and ever and ever.
If you can stomach listening to more of the same, then admittedly, Operahouse deliver the goods. However, bands like this, in my mind at least, just need to exploit any niche in their music, no matter how subtle, so as to engage an ever disaffected audience.
Twisted Charm and their debut LP is (especially for generic bands like Operahouse) definitely worth checking out for some much needed insightful refreshment… unless unit shifting is your thing of course!
