I first learnt about Sonic Hearts when I saw them play as a support band in Cardiff Barfly in 2007. My friend and I have just had to stand through an appalling first support (I can’t even remember who) and were both really impressed when the Sonic Hearts played their set.
Despite signing up to their mailing list and receiving the occasional email I haven’t really paid much attention to them. This single makes me think that maybe I should have. It is a perfect piece of summer in 3 minutes. I’m sat writing this in my lounge with a log fire going in front of me and this song makes me feel like I’m lying in the middle of a field on a hot summer’s day.
Singer Sean Francis Butler’s husky vocals blend perfectly with the guitar driven melody of this track with beautiful backing vocals by flautist Kirsty Donaldson. It is inevitable that being Liverpudlian and playing this style of music the band will be compared to other Scousers such as the Coral and Zutons but they are much more than just another Liverpool band.
This is a gorgeous piece of music that will capture your heart and mind and have you longing for summer.
