After the recent success of Adele and Duffy, it’s good to see a female singer-songwriter with more than one move. Claire Toomey’s ‘Found’ is an acoustic EP worthy of comparison with Alanis Morrisette at her peak, with a gentler but no less affective vocal.
That said, Toomey does appear to play it safe to some extent, with the title track harbouring a chorus so unadventurous that it detracts from the rest of the song. To be honest, she would get more respect by sticking to her guns and not striving too hard for commercial success.
On the basis of her emotional vocals and meaningful lyrics, Claire Toomey should do well. However, if she moves too far down the accessible route then the only destination for ‘Found’ will be Starbucks playlists.
