Navvy – 4 Songs

I don’t quite understand what Navvy were aiming for here. At the base of each song on “Songs by Navvy” is a good, solid strong beat, but that’s where the positives end. I understand minimalist, however there’s a difference in between over-production and just a lack of content.

Everything feels over-simplified, and to be perfectly honest the backing vocals are terrible. The tracks are too staccato, and simply become boring after a while.

While listening to the first track, “Robot”, I genuinely found it hard to keep my mind on what I was doing. This happened again and again with the other songs. It’s all just a bit…boring.
I think it’s because there is no change, no diversity. Even when the songs up tempo and get a little bit faster (when this happens it seems to imply the “chorus” section of the songs), I can’t pick out anything memorable.

I can’t pick out, from any of the songs, anything that makes the melodies stand out at all.
I feel I’m almost left with nothing to say, because nothing strikes me as special, exciting or new.
