Various – 21 Soundtrack

Mixing big names like ‘band of the moment’ (according to the press release) MGMT, Rihanna and Mark Ronson with lesser known names in a soundtrack that oozes hip (much like the movie, perhaps), 21 – The Soundtrack is a mass of RnB, indie/alternative dance, hip hop and even a bit of reggae and 60s influenced pop-rock from former members of The Beta Band.

Due to the variety of some of the tracks, different people will have different favourites which may work in the film but as an album in its own right people may prefer to just purchase certain tracks on iTunes rather than the whole CD.

One possible mistake is the choice of an exclusive Rolling Stones remix by Soulwax that touches on the infuriating, especially for Rolling Stones fans but also because of the repetitiveness and the tediousness of always seeming like something is about to kick in that never does. Overall, whilst this album does ‘ooze hip’ as stated before and uses big names to its advantage, perhaps it is just a bit too hit-and-miss with some tracks appealing to certain people more than others.
