A call back to 70’s Americana Rock, Voodoo Six’ album ‘First Hit For Free’ is a dozen songs that are all introduced by heavy strings and then led with style.
What is strange is that the image presented in the CD seems more something that will appeal to the gothic rock crowd, or maybe even christian rock (song titles include ‘Faith’ and ‘Feed my Soul’ and ‘Saints and Sinners’, even the album art includes a grave stone and a band in a forest photo). But the music itself is much of the devils music of drug fuelled 70’s.
By the bands marketing aside, when you come to meet the music itself it is something to behold. There are other bands out there that are doing similar things, but you need a decent axe and strong vocals in order to sustain any decent rock album. Voodoo Six have their offerings present and correct.
