There are certainly moments of promise here but the songs are hindered somewhat by the tinny sounding production. After a few listens it’s apparent that buried within these four songs is a great amount of potential and talent but it struggles to make itself centrefold because of the poor execution. The songs build up and up and then when they really need to step it up a gear they simply hammer on the distortion pedal and the songs are really crying out for a little more. Transition from part to part is often poor and a little lazy which means the songs just don’t flow all that well.
Lead track ‘Tuesday Girl’ sounds very clichéd and could be the product of any mediocre pub act. Put it this way, it’s not too hard to imagine Vernon from Coronation Street rocking away to this one, which I’m sure, for those of you who watch ‘corrie’ will agree, is not a pleasant image.
The song ‘Toys’ is actually far superior and should in my eyes have been the single. Here the band divulge into anthemic chorus territory and make effective use of the stop start layered sound without it sounding messy and over zealous.
