Blah Blah Blah – Death To The Indie

This is an endearing song, mining the seam of discontent with the ‘wankers on the dancefloor’ that’s been present in British pop for a long time. Of course, the notable example is The Smith’s ‘Panic’ with it’s memorable ‘hang the DJ’ refrain – ‘because the music that they constantly play/it says nothing to me about my life’. That song is a kind of grandfather to this youngster, and in fitting tradition, this youngster is a bit more uncouth than The Smith’s paean to insensitive DJs.

Instead of jangly guitars, it prefers to shove a sawn-off double barrel into the faces of the ‘wankers in their best clothes’ and press the trigger. All of this comes dressed up on a slap bass led track that actually does make you want to dance: something of a vehicle-message confusion and one for the Sunday supplement cultural theorists to bite into, for sure.
