Telegraphs – The Rules Of Modern Policing

Telegraphs have great rock ‘n’ roll credentials behind them, including producers involved with the Manic Street Preachers and Idlewild. And I have to say, this single is worthy of its credentials.

Mixing driving guitar lines and thumping drums, ‘Rules’ describes the paranoid and increasingly big brother-like society that we are living in. Landing somewhere between Idlewild and Jimmy Eat World, Telegraphs have a sound that combines the tight rhythm sections often seen on America’s emo circuit with the gritty indie guitars and vocals that we’re used to in Blighty. And this is no bad thing. ‘The Rules of Modern Policing’ is a great tune, due to Telegraph’s grasp of melody with a message.

B-side ‘The Mathematics of Loss’ is nothing to turn a nose up either. Starting out quietly, its roars to life in a style not unlike that of concept aficionados Coheed and Cambria, but crossed with our very own Biffy.

With this new single, Telegraphs have identified the best parts of rock music on both sides of the Atlantic and effectively created a strong sound as a result.
