Less Than Jake – The People’s History of Less Than Jake

It is a difficult time to review this next to the release and subsequent fanfare of the glossy Scorsese- directed ‘Shine a Light’. The live music DVD has come a long way since bands released shoddy VHS versions of dubious live gigs. ‘U23D’ for instance, and its fellow stablemates, aren’t afraid to exploit the super high res, the long run time and the multiformatting possible with a digital versatile disc.

This does that in some ways, but in a very Less Than Jake way. The footage is passable at best, the songs at least numerous and taking a stab at being comprehensive. Although I’m not sure what to make of the ‘Avant Tarde’ sections. They don’t seem to be funny; then again, I don’t find the band’s frat boy schtick funny either. And pop-punk, how much pop-punk will I have to review before I serve my penance, Glasswerk?

One for the fans is probably the nicest thing I can say at this point.
