Blancmange and ‘just cant get enough’ era-Depeche Mode in supergroup shocker!!!
That’s what the new Presets single ‘This Boy’s in love’ is all about. Blatantly plagiarising every sinew of electronic 80’s pop whilst force-feeding it into their Rolands and Casio’s this would slot in perfectly with anything from the glorious pop period 1980 and 1985. It’s a big electro masterpiece that would make Steve Strange puff his chest out in pride along with hair straightening forgotten souls – A Flock of Seagulls.
Ok so why does it work? Well they’ve got some guts to be so obvious, it’s electro pop bigger than Mount Everest, bigger than K2 and has more cheek than an elephant’s arse. It really wears it’s heart on it’s sleeve and the vocal on the chorus is so gloriously camp with a falsetto that those faux popstars , the scissor sisters could never reach than you cant help but love it. The ‘Kim Remix’ is well worth a butchers as well. Bloody gorgeous and something to be excited by in 2008!!
