Alanis Morissette – Underneath

Alanis Morissette is sure to be aware that record sales have decreased since her astoundingly well-received debut ‘Jagged Little Pill’. Who knows, the decision to recruit Guy Sigsworth, a producer recognised for his electronics and knack of creating popular tracks, may have been made with this in mind.

The track itself seems stronger than some of Morrisette’s previous singles, with a surging chorus and a production that is smoother than a baby’s derriere.

The problem of this track, however, lies within the lyrics. Rather than inspiring, they seem to preach; luckily, just before the wording gets too much, the chorus kicks in and you see why Morrissette maintains her loyal fan base.

The latest album, Flavours of Entanglement, will probably be well-received, but on this showing, you cannot help but think something other than production needs to change.
