“Last of the Lookers” is the second single release from young Peckham five piece, The Metro’s. Unfortunately it seems these latest indie upstarts are offering little more than a now typical and weathered formula.
While I do hesitate to use the term “mockney”, the mandatory nonchalant and spluttering vocals on this track are delivered with such overwrought pronunciation, the band sound like a garish parody. Also present are the same artificial attempts at social commentary, I have personally lost count of the number of new British bands with lyrics like “had a couple too many last night” or “met a girl, thought she was the bees knees” . While the blues infused guitar and Ska brass do give the band an authentic mod-strut, the overall sound still feels lazy and contrived.
