Steve Morgan - Calmer Than Karma
Album Review

Steve Morgan – Calmer Than Karma

From humble beginnings at Lancaster open mic nights, Steve Morgan has taken his own brand of acoustic folk up and down the UK, and in 2006 endeavoured to produce his first E.P, Bad River. Now, two years later, he is eager for more widespread recognition, with his second E.P “Calmer than Karma”.

The EP itself is a subtle blend of pleasant vocals, palpable guitar work and some surprising and distinguished backing instrumentals. Morgan’s song writing ability is also very impressive and goes some way to divert from the E.P’s expected lack of production. Highlights include the tranquil blues of “Calmer than Karma”, and a live performance of “Whiskey”, both demonstrating Morgan’s range and potential to make great acoustic music.

Due to the plethora of more accessible alternatives in the highly competitive world that is acoustic folk, this E.P is unlikely to reach many outside Morgan’s circle of appreciation. However “Calmer than Karma” is yet more proof of the obvious talent out there.
