Black Mountain – Stormy High

Black Mountain seem to represent biker music with a gospel-esque edge to the rock. Stormy High is full of repetative, yet building riffs surrounded by organ music. The music is fair enough for what it is, but just what it is pertaining to be may indeed be the question. Stormy High may have a strong stance but what it is standing for is not quite clear as the song doesn’t really seem to end up anywhere after a few minutes. Interludes by less than apt vocals don’t help proceedings.

Thank god then for B-Sides. Bastards of Light their second track infuses a much more mellow dreamy rock with something you might have expected from the Doors. The vocals are much more appropriate and the music just swells as it turns. The title may be a bit unfortunate but this is the stand out number on the CD.
