With the seemingly continuous flurry of new, ‘next best’ indie bands hitting the limelight, it’s hearting to hear Elle Milano take a stand and offer a song that stands above many of their contemporaries’ efforts.
‘Laughing All The Way To The Plank’ is taken from their recent album ‘Acres Of Dead Space Cadets’, and shows one of the most interesting things about Elle Milano is their unforced combination of indie/pop and punk.
The pace of this track is spot-on up until the chorus, where lead singer Adam M Crisp’s vocals – already an acquired taste – seem to shift too abruptly from actual singing to screeching in one fell swoop.
The track is a punch in the face to consumerism, and whilst this isn’t a new subject, Elle Milano do well to breathe a new lease of life into it.
It’s a well-posed track with a strong message, but the midway discordant vocals could hamper its chances of a wider audience.
