A mix bag EP from five artists to watch out for on the Dis Design label.
First up Is ‘Father’ taking metal to its extremity by both metal and even industrial standards. Not a bad effort – purely cause there are indeed moments that help the song stand out despite some generic cliches (please sack the drummer). The biggest surprise is actually how short the track is for the type of song it is. It all does end a bit abruptly.
‘The Cedar Falls’ effort is altogether much more of a commercial rock prospect. Feeding the machine of easy access music, the song itself can’t do any harm, but sadly songs that are harmless also tend to lack a certain thing alpha males end to refer to as ‘Balls.’
‘Lap’ is more American screaming rock. Maybe fans of AFI who don’t know if they want to shout or scream the lyrics. But then it does get a bit Jimmy Eat World too. So maybe one for the emo crowd who fancies just a good old clashing racket.
‘Disarm’ pretty much confirms that after the previous bands that this label is only interested in producing certain types of music. Which is good if you want to know what to shop for or even avoid! Disarm merely blend in.
Finally we have ‘Truckfighters’ who have given themselves a more psychadelic metal outlook on life. One of the more appealing tracks on this EP, so for anyone who makes it to the end of the disc may find something worth noting about the Truckfighters. Perhaps they can be the saving grace of step out from the annonimity that is commercial rock.
