Death Cab For Cutie - Cath
Album Review

Death Cab For Cutie – Cath

Cath finds indie favourites Death Cab For Cutie in arguably their strongest position to date. The second single from their sixth effort Narrow Stairs, it’s a track that should please die hard fans and win the band some new ones.

There’s melody and depth, with singer Ben Gibbard musing ‘everybody will ask what became of you/cause your heart was dying fast and you didn’t know what to do’ over guitarist Chris Walla’s crunchy riff (Walla also produced the track and album).

Jason McGerr’s pounding rhythm is also key to the track’s appeal, and with Narrow Stairs recently reaching #1 on the Billboard 200 it would seem that increasingly mainstream success could be on the cards for Cutie.

It’s not quite upbeat, but it’s not downbeat either, and for now at least it looks like that’s the best place for these guys to be.
