Melee – Built To Last

‘Built to Last’ is the first single from the re-released debut album by Orange County foursome Melee, ‘Devils & Angels’.

Describing their own songs as ‘carefully crafted melodic pop’, this single has touches of Keane, Goo Goo Dolls and Ben Folds about it. The band cite Chris Martin from Coldplay as an influence, and a combination of the piano, and a lack of edge may make the difference between them being considered an arena rock band, or simply a radio friendly band.

There’s nothing stand out about this single. It’s easy listening and it’s well produced, but it doesn’t make me stop and listen. I can’t help but think of Ben Folds meets Hall and Oates. If that appeals, then you’ll like this single and the album that it comes from.
