First time around I didn’t get this, now I do. Cats in Paris offer us an album that is often all over the place, hopefully a deliberate notion or perhaps their own worst editing nightmare, you really have to take this as it comes.
Sometimes you are hit with smooth synth pop in the best Stereolab euro mould, other times tracks seems literally like cats scratching at your best Chesterfield sofa, presumably French ones. At their epic best on “The Curse of Jonah Brian”, which features lyrics surrounding shooting lasers from ones eyes – always a winner, they offer a freak show of fun. Another standout track “Foxes”, gives you an insight into a band learning their trade, at times you’ll find yourself rocking out only to be interrupted by a pelting of inane noise, when the status quo is resolved however, its back to party time.
Hit and miss throughout, praise is due for a sometimes inspired effort here, for Courtcase 2000 the jury is still out.
