Live shows have never been more important as revenue created by concerts and gigs is higher this year than that created through songwriting royalties.
This is the first time live performance profits have topped physical album sales. Albums will create £131million this year, down 15% on 2007. However, the total of royalties from concerts is expected to exceed £143million.
Radio and TV profits will also exceed that of CDs, for the second year running.
The new figures come form MCPS-PRS Alliance and show how trends within music sales continue to change and the emphasis that is now put on live shows and merchandise.
