Broken Records - Lies
Album Review

Broken Records – Lies

A whistling violin underlines the harsh, pleading and echoing lead vocals to introduce this brooding, but clear Edinburgh outfit.

A stirring instrumental range reaches a mild cacophony of harmony that has just enough of a carefree pop element and an explorative folk touch, oozing freshness and heart.

‘Lies’, achingly and poetically exposes the hypocrisy of intimacy, bearing out depth and emotion partly through some winding instrumental foraging.

Previously unreleased B-side, ‘Travelling Songs’ has a longing ‘Robin Hood’ era Simon Fowler style toe and the backing is a little slower, harsher and slightly more blues leaning. They demonstrate more pensive tendencies. It is easy to get the feeling that Broken Records will grow into a real thinking person’s band.
